Flipkart is among the preferred companies for both freshers and experienced programmers!

The brand synonyms with ‘online shopping in India’ has a large workforce that’s continually growing.

If you want to become a programmer at Flipkart, you must crack its series interviews. They’re often long and arduous. One unnamed applicant described his Flipkart interview experience and said it took more than 4 hours!

Though, when you’re well prepared, there’s nothing to worry about.

In this article, we explain what the recruitment process at Flipkart is like and how to crack its interviews.

Towards the end, we list five tips to prepare yourself for the interviews and make yourself stand out.

About Flipkart

Flipkart is an Indian e-commerce company founded in 2007. Headquartered in Bangalore, the company sells everything from books to electronics to groceries.

In 2013, it sold over 1 lakh books in one day, and in 2016 became the first Indian app to have more than 50 million users.

The homegrown company is a direct competitor to Amazon’s Indian subsidiary. In some verticals like apparel and electronics, it even has a competitive edge over its competitors.

Seamless technology, personalized shopping experience, and faster delivery are some of the USP of Flipkart. To keep this massive infrastructure running, it continually recruits the best programmers in India.

Flipkart Recruitment Process

The recruitment process at Flipkart is similar to that of many top tech companies: long and arduous. And that’s a given since they’re only looking for the best engineering talent out there.

Hence, if you wish to work at Flipkart, you need to learn about the recruitment process in greater detail.

For fresher SDEs, the recruitment process consists of four rounds including;

  • Telephonic round

  • Face-to-face technical round

  • Hiring Manager round

  • HR round

The entire recruitment process can take several weeks. So be prepared for it.

For experienced SDEs, there might be more or fewer rounds depending on the job role.

Flipkart Interview Experience: What it’s Like?

Candidates who’ve had the Flipkart interview experience first hand described it as challenging. There are multiple interview rounds conducted and it takes more than superior coding skills to clear them.

After you submit an online application, the first thing you need to clear is the online coding or telephonic round. The coding test is mostly hosted on Hackerrank and it’s relatively easy. After this round, you’ll be invited for the face-to-face interview rounds.

These consist of the following rounds:

Machine Coding Round

In the first round, you’ll be given 1 or 2 coding problems and asked to complete within 2 hours. Within the timeframe, you need to implement the functionality. And if time permits, you can implement the Bonus. The recruiter may ask you to use a particular coding language like C++. But if not, you can use any language.

Data structure and problem solving

The next round is regarding data structures and algorithms. You’ll be given 2 questions from any of the following topics:

  • Arrays

  • Graphs

  • Trees

  • DP

  • Recursion

  • Stacks

  • Maps

  • Heaps

The main focus here is how you approach the problem. So always pick the most efficient programming approach. Time limit for this round is usually an hour.

Experienced candidates may be asked to go through an additional round, which is a system design round. It’s usually for SDE 2 level and higher.

You’ll be asked non-trivial design problems like the design system of Twitter or design of a parking lot (OOD).

Hiring manager round

The final interview round is the typical HR round where you’re asked a series of open-ended questions. The manager would like to see if you’d fit into the company culture and be able to handle the pressure that comes with working at a firm like Flipkart.

The interview will begin with a brief introduction and then proceed into questions like:

  • Why do you want to Join Flipkart?

  • What complex programming projects did you work on in the past?

  • How well do you respond to feedback?

  • How do you cope with stress? Tell us about a time you had to work for longer hours without notice.

  • How willing are you to try new things?

Expect this round to last between 60 to 90 minutes. After this, you’ll be offered a job letter if they see you the right fit for the role.

How to Crack Flipkart Interview?

Unfortunately, not everyone makes it through to the Flipkart cubicles. Hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants apply for a handful of positions. So how can you make yourself stand out?

We have a few Flipkart interview tips for you.

  • Brush up your coding skills

Your coding skills are the foremost thing recruiters look for when hiring for a technical role. You must be proficient in the tools and languages required by the job. Thus, before attending the technical interview round, hone your coding skills. Some of the topics you should cover are:

  • Low level design

  • Design pattern and principles

  • System architecture

  • Array, stack, and queue

There are many coding mock tests available that mimic the real-life coding questions. Attend them to get yourself familiar with the upcoming interview.

  • Spend more time on data structures and algorithms

The recruiters at Flipkart place greater emphasis on data structure and algorithms. Therefore, it’s advised that you put in extra effort in solving problems in these two areas.

As a tip, we recommend you to write code in an object oriented programming language with libraries. This is for concurrency purposes.

  • Learn about Flipkart’s work culture and environment

Flipkart looks for candidates that fit their work culture. Therefore, you should learn about its culture as much as possible. Go through the Flipkart interview experience stories, read their blogs and mission and vision statements to get an idea of what they’re looking for.

  • Be honest and transparent

Last but not least, it’s important that you be honest about yourself throughout the interview. Being pretentious is a red flag for any recruiter. Always own your strengths and weaknesses and be transparent.

Conclusion

Flipkart updates its interview process periodically to keep up with the industry demands and select the best candidates. Therefore, it wouldn’t hurt if you read through Amazon or Qualcomm interview experience stories.

This would give you a broader perspective on the hiring process.
